For all you Pokémon fans out there who live under a rock, let me share with you the best news of 2013.

Yep. You guessed it. A new Pokémon game has been announced as of Tuesday. The best part of all of this is that it is not just a new story or even region. This is the official announcement of the 6th generation of Pokémon! If you are an old school Pokémon fan like I am, then you’ll be like, “More? What could they possibly make now?”. However, I have to admit that I am starting to like some of the newer Pokémon.
Back with Gen 1, not many people understood the logic behind the game. At 8, I got Pokémon Yellow for Christmas. We also received Pokémon Stadium for the N64. As ashamed as I am to admit it, I didn’t get it. We’d battle on the 64 for hours. I never understood why Charizard’s fire moves were “not very effective” when they did, in fact, kill Lapras. Now, I understand moves, types, stats, I know what the hell an EV or IV is and why natures are important1. When you really start reading up on it, you find that there was a lot of thought and science put into the making of these games. I can now begin to pick my Pokémon based on all of the aforementioned rather than how cute they are2.
In the trailer for the announcement, you can see the 3 new starters.

And the legendaries.

The new Generation isn’t all of the good news. No. It’s being released on the Nintendo 3DS. That’s Pokémon in 3-freaking-D! While, I’m not a huge fan of 3D and haven’t even looked at the improvements on the 3DS in a GameStop, I’m more excited that the graphics look so much better. The battle scenes are phenominal!
Do I want a 3DS after I just got a brand new Green DSi for Christmas? No. Will I want one by October? Most likely. Will I actually use the 3D on the 3DS? It’s too soon to tell. However, I’m just excited for Pokémon X & Y and I can’t wait for October!
I want to share with you a few screen shots and we can speculate together. Here we go!

Of course, this has not been confirmed as of yet but based on this screen shot, your character may be customizable. Recently, we’ve been able to choose between male or female characters but had no control over their appearance. Until now, possibly.

A wild freaking Pikachu appeared!! I think Andrew was the one who pointed out to me that a wild Pikachu has yet to be seen since Gen 1. While he may be obtainable in other games, you couldn’t actually catch him in the tall grass or even have multiples of him until now! Of course, the “game footage is not final” but we can cross our fingers, right?

Last screen shot, I’ll share is this one, showing actual game play. I’m actually really excited so see this in the new game. Of course, the graphics aren’t 100%3 but it is a cartoon. I’m not expecting PS3 HD style graphics. Well, I guess I am. I’m just not expecting to get them. I’m really happy to see game play from this angle rather than from up above.
Whether or not the speculations are true, I’m happy to be a part of the Pokémon community as we enter into a new generation. I don’t know. It gives me a sort of, experienced feeling. At least, I’ll be better off than some of the kids who get into it when this is finally released.
I’ll leave you with the trailer. Let me know what you think of Pokémon X & Y in the comments?

I’ve always been curious as to how they manage to release the exact same game over and over and still manage to be successful. =P
